4 Cocktail Recipes inspired by Classic Autumn Movies

It’s fall, y’all!

The weather is starting to turn here in Provence, a chill is hitting the air and the vines are slowly losing their green tones for warmer orange gold colours. There is no better time to cosy up in a blanket and watch classic autumn movies while enjoying something delicious to drink.

Last week, we asked you on Instagram to name your favourite autumn movies so we could create bespoke cocktails for you to enjoy while watching them. We’re so happy to present you with four delicious cocktails, using our Dry Gin, that have been inspired by four of your (and our!) favourite autumn movies!

So get your cocktail kit ready, and nestle in to enjoy those iconic movies with a tasty cocktail.

Oh Captain, My Captain

to pair with Dead Poets Society

Got a little bit of back-to-school nostalgia? We suggest re-watching this boys’ school classic starring the one-and-only Robin Williams. And we won’t judge you if you cry your eyes out… Just make sure you keep yourself hydrated with our Spiced Pear Collins renamed ‘O Captain, my Captain’ for the occasion.

Ingredients

  • 50ml Mirabeau Dry Gin
  • 50ml pear purée
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp honey
  • A dash of grated fresh ginger
  • Sparkling water
  • A slice of lemon, sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon (to rim the glass)

Method

Rim a glass with sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. To do this mix the three ingredients in equal quantities on a plate. Run a slice of lemon around the rim of the glass to moisten it. Dip the moistened rim in the sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Gently shake of any loose mix and add ice cubes.

Place Mirabeau Dry Gin, pear purée, lemon juice, honey and grated ginger in a shaker with ice cubes and shake. Strain into the glass. Top with sparkling water. Garnish with a pear slice.

Midnight Margarita

to pair with Practical Magic

Because autumn also means Halloween season, Practical Magic is sure to put you in the mood. Family, heartbreak, witchcraft, magic, 1990’s vibes, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock…this movie has it all. And to celebrate THAT Midnight Margaritas scene, here is our very own Margarita recipe.

Ingredients

  • 45ml Mirabeau Dry Gin
  • 45ml fresh grapefruit juice
  • 15ml fresh lemon juice
  • Juice from 1 wedge of lime
  • 90ml spicy ginger beer

For the Garnish:

  • 60ml fresh grapefruit juice
  • Zest from one grapefruit
  • 60ml caster sugar
  • Half or quarter wheels of grapefruit

Method

Pre-prepare your glasses: Place the grapefruit juice in a bowl. On a plate, combine the zest and sugar. Dip the rim of a coupe or martini glass into the juice first, shake off any excess liquid, then let it kiss the sugar mixture to coat the rim evenly. Fill the glass with ice.

For the drink: In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, combine the Mirabeau Dry Gin and juices. Shake vigorously and pour into the prepared glass. Top it up with the spicy ginger beer and garnish with the quarter wheels of grapefruit.

Martinez

to pair with When Harry Met Sally

If this iconic autumn movie was set on the French Riviera and not in Manhattan, we have no doubt the famous NYE scene when Harry declares his love to Sally would have taken place at the Martinez Hotel in Cannes. So, without further ado, let us introduce you to a very chic cocktail that imbues the golden colours of autumn, the Martinez…

Ingredients

  • 60ml Mirabeau Dry Gin
  • 30ml sweet vermouth
  • 20ml Maraschino
  • 2 dashes orange bitters

Method

Stir all the ingredients in a mixing glass for 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled Martini glass. Express the oils from a twist of orange twist over top then add the twist as garnish.

Stars Hollow

to pair with Gilmore Girls

Okay, Gilmore Girls is a series, not a movie. But the autumn vibes are too undeniable for us not to include it on our list. Just picture Stars Hollow and its gazebo decorated with pumpkins, bales of hay and red leaves, and you have everything autumn should be about. As a tribute to the hometown of Rory and Lorelai, we created the Stars Hollow, a hot apple punch so good that Miss Patty would definitely approve.

Ingredients

  • 750 ml apple juice
  • 150 ml Mirabeau Dry Gin
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 crushed cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • Juniper berries
  • peel of 1 orange
  • peel of 1 lemon
  • Thyme

Method

In a pan, simmer all the ingredients together – except the gin – gently for two minutes. Add the Mirabeau Dry Gin. Serve in glass half pint tankards and garnish with slices of apple, cinnamon sticks and a dusting of nutmeg.
