Spring at Domaine Mirabeau

Despite the country going into lockdown, and the world being in turmoil battling the Coronavirus pandemic, quietly but surely, Spring has arrived at Domaine Mirabeau. After a very mild March, we thankfully had a wet early April, and the plants have shot up. The oak trees are now covered with vibrant green leaves, there is magnificent white and pale pink blossoms, and the wildflowers are appearing in the new wildflower meadow by the walled ‘potager’ vegetable garden.

The fauna has also come out for Spring; there are some beautiful butterflies and birds around the domaine, and our bees are thriving. The Queen Bees are laying thousands of eggs and the number of bees in each hive have doubled to over 20,000 per hive! You can read more about our Farm, including our beehives and regenerative agriculture approach on the domaine page and we hope you enjoy this brand new video from Stephen and Jeany.

Our ‘potager’ vegetable plot is coming along nicely. So far we’ve planted potatoes, artichokes, cauliflower, Romanesco broccoli, peas, broad beans, green beans, shallots, butternut squash, beetroot, radish, strawberries and herbs. Last week we made our first dish using vegetables from the potager; Goats cheese, garden peas and mangetout bruschetta!

Whilst continuing to respect social-distancing, there are some exciting developments coming up next month; we welcome two alpacas to the domaine (more on this next month!), we’ll be installing a pizza and bread oven, and we will be finishing the renovations of La Bastide.

Hot off the press, we’re pleased to let you in on the news that Jeany and Stephen have decided to offer the domaine’s seven-bedroom villa ‘La Bastide’ out for rent later in the year, for 2020 only. This is of course dependent on the Covid-19 situation. Featuring stunning terraces for al fresco dining, a private infinity swimming pool and plunge pool, lush gardens with scents of Provence and a boules court – La Bastide truly is a haven of peace. This remarkable villa exudes French charm with rustic stone, wood beams and traditional shutters.
