Mirabeau Rosé wins listing at O’Briens stores in Ireland

Mirabeau story

Sometimes patience pays off.

I first met the lovely Lynne Cole ( O’Briens wine buyer) at the largest wine fair in Europe in March of last year. Prowein takes place each year in Dusseldorf and thousands of wine producers from around the globe nervously pour glasses of wine hoping to win new business from importers, distributors and retailers from around Europe (and sometimes further afield too).

I entered a competition at Prowein called WineStars and was lucky enough to be a winning finalist – and guess who was one of the judges. Yup, Lynne. She explained to me that O’Briens couldn’t list Mirabeau in 2013 and that she would be in touch for 2014. I made a hasty note in my calendar to give Lynne a call in the new year (because busy wine buyers never remember promises like that), but blow me down – Lynne dropped my an email at the beginning of January this year and in March O’Briens placed their first order.

I wish all business worked like that. And now Mirabeau is in 32 stores around Ireland as well as on-line.

O’Briens is Ireland’s largest family owned drinks retailer. They ship directly and exclusively from over 55 wineries worldwide. They have a strong relationship with each of their suppliers which enables them to offer their customers a range of excellent quality wines at the very best value. They also work with local suppliers to deliver a complete range of over 1,000 wines and the largest beer and spirits offering in the country.

In visiting any of their 32 stores, you will enjoy a unique shopping experience thanks to their modern, contemporary layout, daily in-store tastings, monthly promotions and excellent service from their knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Their online offering is also brought to you by the same innovative team of staff, who provide excellent descriptions of the wines and winemakers, useful serving suggestions & handpicked mixed cases of their personally recommended favourites.

With over 250 staff currently employed, continued growth of the group is governed by the family’s five core values of great retail – value for money, knowledgeable and friendly staff, an exciting and relevant product offering, a relaxed retail environment and the right store location. Managing director Brendan O’Brien is adamant that these core values will not change and will continue to form the building blocks of the company long into the future.

I became captivated with the world of wine whilst on a visit to the Barossa Valley during my gap year in Australia. I went on to join a London wine merchant and studied wine for several years before starting my own wine business at 24. I sold the business aged 30 and went into Telecoms for 15 years, during which time I began cooking up the plan to create Mirabeau.
