Mirabeau wins Decanter award

Reviews

The Decanter World Wine Awards is the world’s biggest wine competition and of the 14,400 wines judged this year, Mirabeau won a Commended award for its Provence Rosé!

This is great for Provence Rosé in general, as well as for Mirabeau. Each year rosé wines are being taken more and more seriously and Provence is leading the way in the premium segment of this increasingly popular category. And so it should be – in France rosé wine sales are greater than white wine sales.

This year saw a preeminent line-up of masters of wine, sommeliers, critics and buyers flew into London earlier this month for the 10th anniversary Decanter World Wine Awards.

The competition featured some 225 judges throughout a week-long judging process, representing a total of 27 different countries around the world.

The judging line-up included 75 Masters of Wine and 14 Master Sommeliers and regional experts from across the international wine trade.

The 2013 awards saw the appointment of a number of new regional chairs, including The San Francisco Chronicle’s wine editor Jon Bonné chairing the USA panels, Bob Campbell MW for New Zealand, Patricio Tapia for Argentina, Essi Avellan MW for Champagne and Monty Waldin for Tuscany.

Sarah Kemp, Decanter publishing director said: ‘In our 10th anniversary year we are thrilled to have judging with us the who’s who of the wine world.

‘We’re extremely proud to be able to attract the world’s most respected and greatest palates and the fact they fly in from all corners of the world gives the Decanter World Wine Awards a totally unique and international perspective.

‘The depth and experience these judges have in wine is unparalleled.’

I became captivated with the world of wine whilst on a visit to the Barossa Valley during my gap year in Australia. I went on to join a London wine merchant and studied wine for several years before starting my own wine business at 24. I sold the business aged 30 and went into Telecoms for 15 years, during which time I began cooking up the plan to create Mirabeau.
