Planning permission application

Blog Mirabeau story

So, some nine months after first viewing the plot and having had our offer accepted (subject to planning permission), we have finally gathered together all the paperwork and submitted the planning application.

The land itself is in a beautiful location just outside Cotignac and is just under 2 hectares (around 4.5 acres). The challenges we will face in getting the permission granted will not, ironically, be with the local town hall or even with the French bureaucracy…but with our English neighbour who we expect to fight us every step of the way! We should be okay as we are being very straight with the application, but there are a few potential issues with access to the land and the neighbour has a few hands to play. I tried saying hello to them once but they don’t seem to want to talk to us right now. Nice, eh?

So watch this space to see whether the Cronkies get to build their dream house or whether it gets blocked by ex-pat NIMBYs. Even if it goes smoothly, it’ll take 5 months! Fingers crossed.

I became captivated with the world of wine whilst on a visit to the Barossa Valley during my gap year in Australia. I went on to join a London wine merchant and studied wine for several years before starting my own wine business at 24. I sold the business aged 30 and went into Telecoms for 15 years, during which time I began cooking up the plan to create Mirabeau.
